Javier Bardem is bone-chilling here. Yet, to me it's just another movie gratuitously paralleling our evolution with the escalation of violence with no additional "epiphanies" making it worth the ride.
Cormac McCarthy, the author of "No Country for Old Men," always makes me think of my Grandfather, an old Texan cowboy. With this movie, in particular, I ponder him and how challenging it must be to grow old with the times when the times end up being so radically different from one's starting point.
Just as in "All the Pretty Horses," a McCarthy story directed by Billy Bob Thornton, "No Country" aptly conveys the haunting solitude, scenery and landscapes for which Texas is famous.
