Review of No Country for Old Men (2007) by Robert I — 21 Jan 2013
A picture that demonstrates that strong individual scenes and hard-bitten performances can end up a muddy, pointless mess. A character study with the heart of a western, the film ends on a nihilistic note that reflects only the filmmakers' cynicism about the human condition.
I watched it, hoping for more plot than I got, and was left wondering how this crazy patchwork quilt of unrelated character sketches could have ever been considered good storytelling. I regret having this film take up so much time on my Netflix cue.
