Review of No (2012) by Matthew N — 16 Mar 2013
Instead of trying to capture the lenses and filtered look of 1980s cinema they decided to go with the grainy odd lighting look of those old VHS home movies look. Which at first, seemed clever but the nostalgia quickly faded.
The oppression threat even covert undermining of this harsh goverment is almost non-existent. Threats are mentioned and hinted at but the filmmakers never put into action to express how dangerous it was or could be to put out anti-dictator propaganda.
As good as Gael Garcia is, he seems to be (especially near the end) walking about with this foggy demeanor which took me out of this film.
