Review of No (2012) by Jerem M — 17 Dec 2013
I have to admit, I don't quite understand why this is considered a "political satire", because this seems like a pretty straightforward docudrama. But it's a good one. Based on the supposedly rigged election to continue the reign of dictator Pinochet, this film follows the seemingly fruitless NO campaign to vote him out of office.
But as things start to take off, the people start to believe that the NO side has legs. Gael Garcia Bernal is magnetic as ever and the rest of the unknown cast keeps pace. This should be in the running for Best Foreign Language Oscar, unquestionably.
