Review of Nixon (1995) by Michael A — 05 Jun 2007
Oliver Stone's filmmaking style and use of various film formats and stocks begins to annoy after awhile, but the performances are completely beyond criticism. Anthony Hopkins doesn't really look like Nixon, and doesn't really sound like Nixon.
.. and yet he embodies him completely. His adoption of "Nixonian" mannerisms is complete and brilliant. Equal kudos to Joan Allen for portraying angst, weariness and strength with perfect pitch.
