Review of Nixon (1995) by Jonathan A — 16 Apr 2008
Long, but powerful biopic with Hopkins as President Nixon covers his early life, political career and downfall during the Watergate scandal. Oliver Stone's trademark punch is felt throughout, especially in the film's first hour.
Joan Allen is superb as Pat Nixon; her husband's voice of reason. The last act of the film is the stuff of Shakespearian tragedies but started to drag a little and lose momentum in the narrative. Intriguing and overall, well made film, nonetheless.
