Review of Ninja Scroll (1993) by Jimi L — 29 May 2011
Tittle: Ninja Scroll (1986).
Directed by: Kevin Seymour, Yoshiaki Kawajiri.
Tags: 101% anime action.
Intro: I've seen this movie several times. And I think I owe this one review (especially that some "Super reviewers" left something that tells more about their taste and capability of being actually super reviewer).
PLOT.
Lonely wandering ronnin, Kibagami Jube, indepedent and uncorrupted ninja, gets involved in battle against 8 demons of Kimon, in the time when government was weak and under pressure of Warlords. Kibagami becomes the unwilling partner of a wiley imperial spy named Dakuan, and the lovely Kagero, the last surviving member of a ninja squad that fell victim to the demon (and saved by Kibagamy later).
Kibagami finds out that leader of 8 demons of Kimon, and one who has intense to reach position of the Shogun of the Dark, is his old enemy who kibagami killed personally, now reincarnated.
COMMENTS.
Art work is very good. For that period Amazing! Lots of details, good colouring, always looks realistic even if techniques varies from scenes, however, art language is pretty consistent.
The animation, however, isn't as good as Kawajiri's later work, which probably benefits more from computer graphics. Older anime movies seem to suffer from fewer cels in a given length of film. The best American animation usually uses more cels per second than traditional anime.
ABSOLUTE RECOMMENDATION!!!
