Review of Nine Queens (2000) by Ioannis B — 25 Jan 2010
This film is one that I am not ashamed to speak of in absolutist terms: it is wonderful. The stunning aesthetics and gripping plots. The interesting characters and the tense postmodern cinematography. The action and suspense... I could wax eloquently, but I don't want to bore any readers.
Essentially, this film is one of the few that truly has "something for everyone." Film snobs will love the intertextual elements of the plot, with a nice does of referentiality. The artsy crowd will gawk at the intense imagery and stunning sweeping shots. The Tarentino-ites will be pleased with the rapid-fire dialogue and fast paced action.
Even younger viewers would find this movie engagingly funny and action packed at the same time.
5748 thumbs up.
