Review of Nine Lives (2016) by Linda L — 05 Aug 2016
While this was a well cast and well done "family" movie, it is not a "for kids" movie. For one, the eldest son appears to commit suicide off his father's building. He even says, "This will be my first and last jump.
Goodbye, Dad." to convince us that is exactly what he was doing. Next, the cat (Kevin Spacey) takes a jump after his son to try to save him. The two look eye to eye as the son pulls a ripcord to a parachute and the cat plummets to its death as he watches his son float to safety.
The audience is lead to believe the cat is a spot on the pavement until after several scenes of resolution occur, the closing scene shows the cat is fine. (He has 9 lives after all.). This is a fine ending for a mature audience, but my two girls (aged 8 and 11) were in puddles of tears because they thought the star of the show was dead and the movie took too long to resolve it.
because.
