Review of Nine Dead (2010) by Jason C — 15 Jun 2011
You'll have to give it time. Although Nine Dead doesn't get MUCH better, it does turn out to be an OK movie. The twist was OK, but nothing original.
9 people are trapped in a room. A masked villain has abducted them and has given them an ultimatum: find out how they are all linked and they'll set them free. The catch is that every 10 minutes, if they don't have the right answer, he'll shoot one of them.
The acting is horrible. Ghastly even. They're mostly TV actors. Soap opera actors could do just as good a job. They were given very stereotypical roles, which weren't done any justice by the bad acting.
Chris Shadley, a camera guy, takes his one and (more than likely only) shot at directing. What kills me is how a director would let such shoddy lighting fly. I don't know exactly whether he really took charge of the set, but judging by the slow progression of the movie, bad acting and camera work, he didn't have a clear vision of what he wanted. Patrick Mahoney is the first time writer who put this script out. Although it's an unoriginal movie at the tale end of this style of film being made, it was alright. I could definitely see it doing better with a better director and bigger budget.
I wouldn't recommend anyone watch Nine Dead. I watched it and took a couple good things from it, but it's not worth it overall to sit through the whole thing.
