Review of Nine (2009) by Dan B — 28 Dec 2010
I'm torn on Nine- it should have been an incredible musical, but it turned out to be a series of decent to slightly above-average scenes interspersed with two or three horrible ones. Some of the songs are wonderful and catchy, but there are one or two stinkers that made me wonder why such high-caliber actors agreed to sing them.
The story is ridiculous and boring, but this being a musical means I look mainly to the performances and presentation of the movie for how to rate this. There's enough to like- Marion Cotillard is the best thing about this, and Fergie and Kate Hudson's songs are pretty catchy.
I wish Daniel Day-Lewis brought more to the table in this- following up There Will Be Blood is no easy task, but this was a misstep.
