Review of Nine (2009) by Luigi T — 17 Nov 2011
This is a film about a man trying and failing to make a film only to come back after much personal conflict resolution to make his "masterpiece" Unfortunately, I think his masterpiece is entitled Nine and it's more like a paint by numbers mess. While this star filled film has all the makings of a great musical, including good music, decent setting and fantastic costumes it forgot one thing... it was making a movie. Adapted from a play, Nine never loses the crutch of the theatre. If you're going to make a movie, make a movie. Don't just shoot the play with a video camera and call it film.
What this movie did achieve was make me want to check out a stage performance of Nine so I guess it did something right.
