The music itself is not that good and I don't feel any of the songs could ever be a hit. With such an all star cast one would expect a very high quality acting but I think that many of the stars, especially Nicole Kidman, were sadly miscast.
Of course Cotillard and Dench were superb but aren't they always? As to Penelope Cruz, she did her best and her singing and dancing number was superb but she is not the Sandra Milo of 8 1/2. I don't believe in the usefulness of "remakes" but I am not at all against a good movie inspired by a classic (i.
E Nikita Mikhalkov's 12). But when the inspiration fails ...
