Review of Nim's Island (2008) by Lindsay Elizabeth M — 17 Mar 2009
I have to say that I admire Jodie Foster and Gerard Butler as actors, as well as give credit to Abigail Breslin for practically doing most of the crucial scenes in the movie, but the entire storyline was rubbish. I had high hopes for this film, but the story itself ruined the entire experience.
Foster was fantastic as the reclusive writer Alexandra Rover, while Butler hammed it up in an American accent as Jack Ruscoe, Nim's marine biologist father. He didn't forget his Scottish roots, as he reverted to his original Scottish accent for the fictional literary character Alex Rover, the creation of Foster's Alexandra Rover.
And Breslin. I have to hand it to her, for a young actress, she was able to hold on her own; I just think this would have been way better if there were some more action. Even the desert fight Butler was engaged in against Arabian bandits was depressing.
