Review of Nim's Island (2008) by Robert C — 20 Aug 2009
There is actually a difference between good family movies and bad family movies, you know.
Gerard Butler was worhtless in this film. He plays both the father (with a bad American accent) and the plucky imaginary hero? But he basically gets absolutely nothing to do but stand around and literally spell out plot points for us. Jodie foster is my favorite actress, but I cringed to see her in this. She was a little funny being fearful at home, but once she left the house it became grating and tiresome to watch. Abigal Breslin is the real anchor of this movie, but even here there's not much to her other than she's just an adventurous jungle girl who talks to animals. I hated this movie, but I acknowledge that it's harmless.
