Review of Nikita (1990) by Kevin R — 04 Sep 2010
The first bullet is not for you.
Nikita is a troubled girl who hangs out with the wrong crowd and is addicted to drugs. After a store robbery, she is arrested, rehabilitated, and trained to be a mercenary to work for the government. Once rehabilitated and in her new line of work she struggles to live a normal life while also performing her new profession.
?We?re going to finish this or I?m going to burn your face off, okay??
Luc Besson, director of Leon: The Professional, Angel-A, Atlantis, The Fifth Element, Subway, The Big Blue, and The Messenger: The Story of Joan of Arc, delivers La Femme Nikita. The storyline for this picture is well delivered and action packed. The character development and portrayal is remarkable. The cast delivers perfect performances and includes Jean Reno, Anne Parillaud, and Tcheky Karyo.
?You don?t like him??
?I?ve seen more intelligent bananas.?
I remember seeing this as a kid and just thinking it was just okay; however, shortly after college my wife told me she really liked this movie and I picked it up and added it to our DVD collection. Watching this as an adult, this is not as good as Leon: The Professional, but it is still very good. Besson is an underrated director and it is disappointing his primary focus is currently cartoons. I strongly recommend seeing this movie.
