Before The Transporter, The Fifth Element and The Professional there was la Femme Nikita. It's not a bad film but you can definitely get where much of his style comes from (John Woo predominantly).
However the movie left me wanting more and felt boring yet annoying at times. There is no doubt why Luc Besson has a film career now if this was a launching pad.
