Review of Nights of Cabiria (1957) by Karolina M — 08 Dec 2010
I will admit I dont know much about the films of Fellini other than La Dolce Vita and ive seen parts of his Satyricon (which I found boring, Satyricon that is, La Dolce Vita is a masterpiece which I need to revisit soon.
) So I blindly watched Nights of Cabiria without knowing a thing about it and fuck if this isnt one of the best films ive ever seen! Truely a film I would call a masterpiece! Giulietta Masina is absolutly incredible as the prostitute with the heart made of rubber and a burning spirit that cant be extinguished, no matter how many times is doused.
Nights of Cabiria is a greulling watch , as you see the pathetic Cabiria get beaten down every time she seems to have a glimmer of hope. The last ten minutes or so are some of the most greulling and emotional moments I have ever been put through in cinema! Fuck; was this good.
