Review of Nights in Rodanthe (2008) by Clyde L — 10 Jan 2011
I found this nothing like the other 3 (of 5) Nicholas Sparks based movies I loved so much (Walk to Remember, Dear John, the Last Song). Nights in Rodanthe (with excellent high-dollar actors) felt like a typical superficial Hollywood movie.
More than being somewhat simple, predictable, clichà (C), and patronizing (Sothern high-society slumming it with the local fishing villagers), my biggest complaint is that I did not feel the attraction or chemistry between the main characters.
The relationship seemed contrived and unnatural to me. In fact, none of the relationships with the main character felt real or moving to me (kids, romantic, friends, etc.). The entire last half of the movie seemed like one immature or contrived clichà (C) after another.
I hope âThe Notebookâ? will have more substance.
