Review of Nightcrawler (2014) by Zimbardo — 04 Nov 2014
Jake Gyllenhaal stars as a sociopathic version of Sheldon Cooper in a movie that somehow manages to be neither interesting or boring. Nightcrawler is a film with a linear plot (which is pretty much given away in the first scene) that is populated by characters that you won't care about. This is one of those films that can be experienced in its entirety by watching the trailer.
Think Drive without the suspense, twists, attachments to characters, or sweet soundtrack.
P.s.: I really don't get how Gyllenhaal's performance is getting lauded and recommended for an award. Try this at home. Hold your eyes slightly wider than you would normally. Now make a fake smile. Now repeat a line from a marketing textbook. Apparently you now deserve an Oscar.
