Review of Nightcrawler (2014) by Movieguys — 04 Nov 2014
It's hard to believe Nightcrawler was made by first time director Dan Gilroy, because what a movie this is. It's appropriately seedy and eerie; Jake Gyllenhaal gives one of his best performances of his career; and the tone is dead-on accurate in every scene no matter what s happening.
The characters are all round and realistic, and the cinematography to die for. If these things don't do it for you, it'll be the pure atmospheric tension of the movie that keeps it going along, scene by scene, building up for a climactic final third.
This is one of the best films of the year.
