Review of Nightcrawler (2014) by Tor M — 12 Jun 2015
We follow a man that lives of filming accidents and crimes for national news broadcasts.
The lead, brilliantly portrayed by Jake Gyllenhaal, is a man lacking of many things. He's a very egoistic sociaopath that doesn't let anything get in his way. He's kind of smart too - he is learning new tricks rapidly and he has some sort of controll.
The plot is engaging and you are glued to the screen, even during the build up. Gyllenhaal has done some brilliant films lately and once again he steals the show. Still, he's well supported by a great cast and a super script. It looks really nice and there are few flaws here. The lead's crazy actions and the added realism is making it very watch worthy.
It's pretty twised, thrilling and has a great dialogue. I can also sense similarities from films like "Drive" and Cronenberg's "Crash".
A terrific film that is smart, scary, creative, interesting and intense.
