Review of Nightcrawler (2014) by Evgeniy Gal F — 14 Jul 2015
The first time I saw the movie I really liked it, but I didn't quite get the message it was trying to get across. But after watching the film a second time, I've come to absolutely love it. Jake Gyllenhall gives the best performance of his career, and should have at least gotten nominated for an Oscar.
He completely transforms into someone that you would never expect to see played by Gyllenhall. The film has a way of making you absolutely hate what should be the protagonist of the film, but instead of turning of the movie because you hate him so much, you keep watching.
It shows how someone so sick and sociopathic can manipulate situations around them in order to get what they want. It's disgusting, but it's real, which is why Nightcrawler is so brilliant, it's real enough to make you evaluate how you think about the world.
