Review of Nightcrawler (2014) by Nikola B — 02 Oct 2015
Nasty, thrilling, and horrifically subtle!
The film offers the tale of a man, Jake Gyllenhaal's character, and his not so pleasant or humane profession, from his green start to his God-like rise to the top. Shooting car crashes, murders, household fires and other unpleasant events is what culminates the daily/nightly routine of his profession.
The fact that Jake Gyllenhaal did not receive at least an Oscar nomination for Best Lead Actor is very sad and disrespectful to his acting abilities.
The film on the other hand does not carry any joy or satisfaction, but a perspective of how news stories are made, sold, and tweaked. It offers the truth, whether it is good or not.
