Review of Nightcrawler (2014) by Anthony S — 24 Jun 2017
Great film, may be considered a classic in years to come. Gyllenhaal and music cues continue to trick viewers into believing it's an inspirational story, or a rags-to-riches tale about the American dream, and leave unsure of who to believe the main character is until the end.
Some will classify it as a black comedy, but it's more appropriate to call it a black satire, with Gyllenhaal's character believing himself to be the next Good Will Hunting with a news camera creating his faux inspirational story.
Riz Ahmed almost steals the show as Gyllenhaal's assistant.
