Review of Nightcap (2000) by Alex M — 09 Jun 2007
Such a wierd film. It doesn't work in the same kind of self contained way most films do. Some information is set up that goes no where and he seems to use your expectations of the way film is going to move against you. That was my impression anyway.
Chabrol uses really great, subtly grotesque images that a worthy of the most understated Cronenberg. The performances are great too. And it was made by an old guy in a pretty shitty decade/century/millennium. So mad proppers. Actually this kind of seems like the century for old guys still doing good work more than anything else. All my favorite films are made by 50+ filmmakers.
