Deeply flawed due to a number of factors. The acting is weak in places as though they used the first take, but mostly it is due to the fact that 20th Century Fox gutted it in the editing room and tried to make a slasher film out of it, when clearly it is very much a dark fantasy.
As a result it is poorly paced and difficult to watch as a result. Everything feels rushed. That said it has many good qualities. Great score by Danny Elfman, great make up, and some amazing visuals.
