Review of Night Will Fall (2014) by James D — 18 Sep 2014
There have been many difficult to watch films depicting or centred on the Holocaust but until you see this harrowing film you don't quite grasp how sanitised even the most disturbing of those films is.
You should be warned that there are scenes here that could haunt you but at the same time it is important that the true story is told and that is what the documentary makers have achieved here. The dehumanisation of people to such an extent that you feel you're almost watching mannequins being dragged and thrown around is unnerving.
This isn't unnecessary voyeurism either, it's the most powerful reminder you can possibly have of the extent to which people can commit inhumane and barbaric acts in a systematic way. This is brutally real documentary making at its most provocative and shattering best.
