Review of Night on Earth (1991) by Marissa S — 23 Oct 2007
I see that 87% of users are not interested in seeing this movie. Do they not realize it is a Jim Jarmusch movie? Do they not realize it stars an early 90's still-a-weirdo-tomboy Winona Ryder as a dirty, chain-smoking taxi driver? Which is, ofcourse, totally preposterous, but charming in theory.
Anyway, I think what I like most about Jarmusch is his ability to capture the atmosphere of a city at night. This movie is a particularly good example of this. Not quite as good as Mystery Train or Dead Man, but much better than Broken Flowers, somewhat better than Coffee and Cigarettes and Down By Law.
Next up on my list: Stranger Than Paradise.
