Review of Night on Earth (1991) by Lindsay B — 11 Jul 2009
Argh. There are many directors that I try and try to feel a connection with, but usually never make it farther than my first impression. Jarmusch is one of those directors. Like Coffee and Cigarettes, this is one of the better experiences that I've had with his work.
Though this is because of such wonderful actors and actresses, not necessarily Jarmusch. The last story of this film is really what the rating is for, because it was beautiful and one of the only stories that felt real. And by real, I mean it didn't feel like it was trying really really hard to be real like all of the other stories did. I still think it is worth a look, and Mueller-Stahl was enchanting to watch even if he gets off-staged for a moment or two by The Mouth of Rosie Perez.
