Review of Night on Earth (1991) by Morpheus O — 27 Jul 2011
1. Los Angeles - I can see Winona Ryder as a female version of Bill or Ted (Yes, that franchise.), Beavis or Butt-Head with just a few more braincells... Her character is an idiot for not taking that offer, tho.
2. New York - The spirit of "The Jerry Springer Show" in all its glory. The second best of the five segment's.
3. Paris - In all of the other segment's the driver's seemed to talk more. In this one the driver is almost mute. More character development would have proved useful, I suspect. The brunette is quite attractive, disability or no.
4. Rome - The funniest segment by far, Benigni talked about some of the most disgusting thing's that I just did not want to hear.. and the "padre's" reaction's were spot on perfect! No wonder the padre, the poor bastard, had a heart attack, or something... The death scene was completely unrealistic, tho. Seeing his face move, his eye's popping back open, I kept expecting, after the driver left, the padre to look around, chuckle and then mumble to himself that although he had to listen to that idiot ramble at least he didn't have to pay for the fare and he got a free pair of sunglasses, too.
5. Helsinki - Depressing!
Although this is a film that is a character driven story, there were wasn't much character development; not enough of it at least to drive the story the way that a character driven story should be. Jim Jarmusch, the director of this film, was quoted as saying ... "The beauty of life is in small details, not in big events". You can watch Night on Earth to understand what he meant by that. Honestly, I prefer "Taxicab Confession's", the HBO series.
