Review of Night of the Living Dead (1990) by Dan C — 10 Apr 2008
As expected, does not surpass the masterpiece that is the original, but still a great movie. This was perhaps due to the fact George Romero and the original producers teamed up to do this one. Tom Savini did a good job as director and the special effects are some of the best for any zombie movie I've seen.
The ending was very innovative but I still prefer the genius of the original ending. I thought Tony Todd gave a good performance as "Ben". The social commentary was too blatant and not done as coyly as Romero.
Making it in color took away from the atmosphere of the original. There were some good points to the new Barbara but I thought the catatonic Barbara of the original added to the psychological effect. Even with its faults, its still a great watch.
