Review of Night of the Living Dead (1990) by Richard L — 13 Jul 2008
This is a very good remake. It starts off strong (you don't have to wait an hour before the interesting parts kick in) and the intensity never drops. The special effects are good. The movie is realistic on two points.
First, if you accept the premise that zombies can exist, the storyline seems shockingly real and you never feel that by some crude effects or cheap twist you are being tricked into believing absurd things one after the other.
Second, the characters have strong personalities and most of them are unstable or unskilled (which is what you would expect from normal people facing such a situation). Contrary to many bad (horror) movies, there actually is some great character development, and you get to feel it not by listening to long conversations that have no point whatsoever, but through their decisions in action.
