Review of Night of the Lepus (1972) by Justin H — 18 Nov 2009
Cutest. Horror movie. Ever. There is no conceivable way that the people who made this could have ever thought it was a good idea. To put it quite simply: there is just NO way to make rabbits scary. Not by making them run around miniature sets to appear "huge," not by smearing red paint on them to make it look like they've eaten someone, and definitely not by putting about a dozen of them on screen together at the same time. The audience's only reaction is going to be raucous laughter followed by "Awww, BUNNIES!".
One thing I do want to make clear right now is that despite the 5-star rating, "Night of the Lepus" is NOT a good movie. But it is one of the most gloriously side-splitting cinematic disasters I've seen in a long time. If you're looking for one of those movies that's "so bad, it's good," then "Night of the Lepus" should be at the very top of your list.
