Review of Night of the Lepus (1972) by Gary S — 29 Mar 2011
Here is a premise of a film where it starts with an infestation of rabbits (lepus=rabbit). Then, one rabbit is injected with some sort of chemical and begins to grow, and multiplies, and more rabid, deranged bunnies are created.
They become compulsive killers. Somebody came up with this idea. This somebody is obviously an idiot. This has got one of stupidest films of 1970's. The rabbits are too slow for humans to not outrun and the chose them being evil is purely insane.
In addition, the sounds these rabbits make are similar to that of guinea pigs or combination of pressing play and fast forward on a tape recorder. They move as fast as slugs and yet the people are to incompetent to avoid their deadly terror.
This idea was stolen from Hitchcock's great, "The Birds," but the inspired idea was ineptly expressed. In addition, who the hell compiled the makeup for Janet Leigh and why on earth she in this film in the first place? She would make for more of grandmother than mother to her daughter within this movie.
The score is also notably bad. Deranged awful movie! The ending is absolutely terrible!
