Review of Night of the Creeps (1986) by Bill M — 21 Apr 2009

Ever wanted a film that has aliens, brain controlling slugs, axe murdering zombies, exploding heads, cryogenicly reanimated corpses, a cool, grizzled cop with a haunted past and a teen/high school story thrown in for good measure, this 80's cult classic has the lot.

This isnt just your average, silly horror com though, night of the creeps is a well made, well acted and all round superb film, it's real strenghs actualy lie in it's great, well rounded characters who arnt just your basic stereotypes , a good script and great direction.

The stand out character of course, is detective cameron, a seriously cool character whose catch thrase "thrill me" you'll find poping out of your own mouth on occasion (exept it never sounds as cool when you say it) The great Tom atkins so superbly plays the torchured, worn down bad ass that you feel this character and performance surely should belong in a different film, but then you wouldnt rekon on the quality of this film.

The same suprise comes of the two geeky high school buddies at the centre of the film, unlike so many films of this kind or any kind of teen flick for that matter, these two are appealing, well played by the actors and never come off as your typical pair of cliche'd, desperate nerds who have no luck with anyone who has a labia, there is something of a bit of honesty and realness to these two mates.

On top of that jill whitlow is a proper babe as the requisit object of teen offection, seriously what happened to this girl? shes lovely, and charming and this is the only fucking film i've seen her in.

But anyhoo, see this wonderfull film, it's funny, scary, gorey and very sweet, it's just a great time in front of the box, and I recomend it to anyone with good taste in films.
