Review of Night of the Creeps (1986) by Tim S — 01 Jun 2010

Before I get into this review, I'll preface this by saying that I'm one of those people who continually goes back and rewatches movies that they don't like to see if they can find any further merit in them, or maybe they just weren't paying close enough attention the first time around.

The latter seems to be the case with me and Night of the Creeps. The first time that I saw it, I felt disappointed, partly because it's a slow movie that takes a while to get going and being such a big fan of The Monster Squad, I was expecting another movie like that.

Neither were correct in this instance. I like that now that it's available on home video, we can have the Director's Cut instead of the Theatrical Cut, the latter of which has en ending that's totally demeaning to the overall film.

It's a shame that Fred Dekker didn't get to make more films because I think he could have pulled off more great genre films like this and The Monster Squad, but unfortunately the failure that was Robocop 3 might have put the nail in that coffin.

I hope not though, because he's still around and still active in the film community if things change. The bottom line here is that Night of the Creeps is much better than I remember it being and I'm a total schmuck for not getting it the first time.
