Review of Night of the Comet (1984) by Paul R — 28 Dec 2009
I bought this movie after reading many reviews that touted it as an 80's horror classic that's somewhat forgotten. Now, I love cheesy 80's horror flicks, particularly when they are self aware and playfully parody the genre.
This film was unwatchable. The dialog was forgettable, the pacing was slow, the directing was flat and the soundtrack was cringeworthy. The maker's of this film went out of their way to find the worst pop music available in 1984.
.. and for some reason they felt it was well suited for a sci-fi horror movie. If the tone of the film was light hearted and fun, then it might have worked, but the movie is plagued with dark, ugly cinematography.
There were many directing dont's... including bad composition on a number of shots, and awkward angles during dialog scenes. Above all, this was a lifeless picture that should have been full of life, especially when you're dealing with teenage valley girls and zombies! Oh, and there was no real threat throughout the entire film.
.. hardly a zombie to be seen. STAY AWAY FROM THIS ONE!
