Review of Night Moves (1975) by Easton D — 10 Feb 2009
Arthur Penn (father of Sean Penn) directs this 1970s detective thriller starring Gene Hackman as private eye, Harold Moseby. He investigates a strange case in Florida. We are treated to both screen debuts of James Woods and a very young Melanie Griffith.
Nowhere near 'Chinatown' or 'The Conversation' but it does have its moments. The final act is well staged and a good ending that leaves us hanging. Somehow I get the impression that Elliot Gould was contacted for the first choice in the lead (after Robert Altman's incredible 'The Long Goodbye') but turned it down and Hackman stepped in.
Still, worth a look for fans of the style!
