Oh Night Fare, how I wanted to like you. And how much I actually enjoyed you until you pissed it all away on shitty post-ending bullshit. Your sound design is so good with deep vibrant sfx and an amazing synth score that seems just out of the grimiest parts of the 80s, your lighting is clever and your premise so intriguing and yet you piss it all away... [spoilers] Night fare to put it bluntly is a story about a killer cab driver. If it were just that it would have been awesome, and for an hour and ten minutes it is exactly that. Jason Vorhees as a murderous cab driver who stalks two ne'er-do-wells after they shaft him out of a 50 euro fare. He stalks, he prowls, he hits them with a car, he dismembers some hoodlums they take refuge with with a fucking katana, baits them out and eventually takes one of them into his creepy black cab as 'payment', only at that point turning the meter off.

But unfortunately that is not the ending, though it should have been. You see, our cabbie Jason is actually a ninja vigilante who prowls the streets at night in search of wrongs to right, he is no slasher but basically the Punisher. And he takes his latest victim (one of our leads) to train him in spiritual ninja night cabbie stuff as have his ancestors for the past 500 years, something we are told and partly shown in comic book Tales of the Black Freighter aesthetics for twenty fucking minutes. We hear our slasher and his ancestors tell their origin stories in excruciating detail, we see a training montage with voiceover and other assorted bullshit that manages to squander every ounce of goodwill that we had towards an otherwise enjoyable movie. It is very, very sad.

Do yourself a favour and, if you watch this movie, turn it off once the 'killer' takes his victim and clocks off the meter. You'll regret it otherwise.
