Review of Night at the Museum (2006) by Gustavmarkovic31 . — 11 Sep 2012
For fans of whacky, predictable fun, then this will be the movie for you. For the many more others who are fans of Ben Stiller's FUNNY comedy, this film will have them yawning. And the lightly inventive plot is put to little or no use.
An impressive all-star cast including Stiller, Robin Williams, Dick Van Dyke, Mickey Rooney and heaps more can't do much to save the fall-about film. The special effects are quite good, but that can't lift it either.
No, what this film needed was some comedy. The man who brought us his comedy greats like Zoolander, Meet the Parents and Dodgeball, brings instead his sloppy films like Envy, Along Came Polly and Madagascar.
Night at the museum occasionally hits the right buttons but on a whole, the film just wasn't funny enough to sustain much interest.
And the ending is just so awfully cliche I almost vomited in spite of myself. Owen Wilson and Steve Coogan together was wince-inducing and calls for gag-time. Someone get a bucket.
Directed by Shawn Levy, who's previous flm credits include the dreadful Pink Panther and Cheaper by the Dozen remakes, it wasn't a very good sign from the start. And despite the chaos that occures in the museum lobby, there really wasn't much going on of interest.
Good if there is nothing else on.
