Review of Night at the Museum (2006) by Loic E — 08 Jan 2012
The premise is interesting enough and the production value is high, but is it ok if I say that this kid's movie just wasn't all that great? As a kid's movie, sure, the visuals will probably be enough, but there was room here to actually have a decent story.
There are several nice moments that seem to offer the opportunity for more depth that are simply not explored. Even the first night at the museum (yes, there's more than one) flies by without nearly enough coverage.
And the "twist" was a bit odd and disappointing - not to mention morally ambiguous (is that wise in a kid's film?). Good cast is not exactly used to its max potential either. Perhaps a good distraction for your kid, but don't worry too much about catching it.
