Review of Night and the City (1950) by Mikey M — 20 Jul 2011
I'm used of watching movies were Richard Widmark is on top of things, like captain of a ship or as an officer in a world war or so. Here he plays the guy who's not really on top of anyrything and it goes downhill from there.
This is really good Noir. Everyone is a bastard in one way or another. The city of London itself plays out in full misery. This movie is 60 years old and god what good it is. Just think the thought that modern mainstream cinema should pick up just ANYTHING from this era in contemporary movie making. Just pick one field. SCRIPT, CASTING, DIALOGUE, SUSPENCE or IMAGINATION.. just imagine the possibilites...
There are no flaws here. There is just that, that there are other Film noirs that are even better than this one made as well.
