Review of Nick of Time (1995) by Paul P — 06 Dec 2008
Depp & Walken together, this can't fail right? Oh my, yes....
This is one of those random films where a great concept is let down by an inability to underpin it with a decent story. Instead we get a mindless assasination plot that is contrived, pointless and poorly executed. When the story progresses to the point where the shopping mall employees and a wooden legged shoe shiner are helping to put an end to the plot, you know that you are onto a bad deal. Also when the film moves into real time, the film feels longer than it really is, another bad sign...
Depp has very little to do here and did I buy into his predicament? Nope... What you do have though is Walken on full on ham mode. The guy is absolutely hilarious as the heavy who is bugging Depp at every turn. Always managing to turn up at the right moment to prevent Depp from alerting the cops etc. Very amusing hair towards the end as well. He saves this from being an all out suckfest.
Apart from the over the top work by Walken, theres not much to recommend here.
