Review of Nick and Norah's Infinite Playlist (2008) by Jason J — 21 Jul 2010
Nick who's the straight bassist in a band with his 3 gay friends has a chance encounter in a club one evening where they're playing with a girl called Norah. Nick is desperately trying to get over his ex-girlfriend Tris and Norah sort of likes Nick but won't make the first move. Both team up and along with their friends try and find the secret location for a gig by a band they both enjoy called Fluffy. It turns out to be a memorable night for both Nick & Norah in many ways.
What a wonderful movie this turned out to be with an amazing soundtrack. So what if it's a bit predictable with the romance aspect, it truly was so enjoyable to watch. Michael Cera and Kat Dennings share some amazing chemistry onscreen. Even the supporting characters from the 3 gay guys, Nick's spoilt and brattish ex-girlfriend Tris and Norah's drunken pal give brilliant performances. The biggest compliment that I can give this movie is that it reminded me of the great stuff that John Hughes made in the 80's and everybody knows he was the king of teen rom com movies in his heyday. It'll give you that feel-good factor at the end. This movie has a solid script, excellent performances and just the right balance of comedy and romance to make this a winner. Highly recommended.
