Review of Nick and Norah's Infinite Playlist (2008) by Jasen L — 02 Sep 2012
The stuff that I like about "Nick and Norah" are the things that I dig about 80's John Hughes movies (despite the racist undertones): the mostly real looking teenagers, the real life scenario, the real life dialogue and the indie soundtrack. The things that I dislike about "Nick and Norah" are the things I dislike about the current trend of teen movies: the over used teenage cliches, the nauseatingly quippy banter and the gross out factor. I think it's safe to say that this movie is inconsistent, but the chemistry between Michael Cera and Kat Dennings make it likable. I also liked all the SNL cameos and looked forward to seeing who would pop up next, but really could have done without almost all the secondary actors, "The Jerk Offs" and Caroline... and what was the gum thing all about? Bottom line check it out if you like Michael Cera or if you want to see glimmers of classic John Hughes.
P.S.
Time to switch it up Michael Cera.
