Review of Niagara (1952) by Grayson D — 26 Nov 2009
A wife plots her husbands murder in a town near Niagara Falls and as it progressed felt more and more like Hitchcocks.
I simply did not see the beauty, that so many others have, not for a moment did I think the scenery was beautiful, I just didn't find the rush of water appealing. Nor do I think Marilyn was at her peak here, there were scenes where she looked gorgeous but she didn't radiate like she does in other films.
I think there were moments that I loved, scenes with Monroe, and some interesting camera-work, but overall I think the elements don't work together. This film isn't strong because it doesn't have a clear focus, it jumps around a little. We don't fully understand any other the caracters nor are they developed. We are shown several points of view but none of them are in depth.
This film had its moments but I would have wanted to see more.
