Review of Next of Kin (1989) by Tim W — 05 Mar 2008
It's no Roadhouse, but it does have a bizarre cast and premise that makes it a worthwhile viewing - Liam Neeson plays a backwoods renegade redneck in the big city of Chicago. Improv comedy guru, Del Close pops up for an appearance, and a young Ben Stiller is the mob boss' beloved son "learning the family business".
If this movie was remade today, almost 20 years later, it might be something along the lines of Larry the Cable Guy and the Blue Collar Comedy Tour in a death match of vengeance vs. The Sopranos - a farce I think none of us could pass up.
In typical Swayze fashion though, he takes his shirt off a little too often.
On a seriously sadder note, it was released in the news today (3/5/08) that Swayze has been diagnosed with pancreatic cancer - so hearts and prayers out to him.
