Review of Next Gen (2018) by Tim W — 09 Sep 2018
A cross between The Iron Giant, I Robot and Big Hero 6, this beautifully animated tale treads a familiar route of friendship, loss and redemption, but it does so in some style. The violence and jokes about profanity will be a bit too intense for younger kids, but over 10's will be fine.
I'm sure some comment will be made about suicide bombers and the like, but the complaint that it is tasteless for films to even slightly reference modern day terror imagery is getting tiresome. After all, no one moaned about Apocalypse Now after Vietnam, or Saving Private Ryan and WWII.
Netflix epically fails with it's grown-up big budget stuff regularly, but it's efforts for kids fare much better.
