Review of Next Friday (2000) by Grëg W — 21 Apr 2009
While not as memorable as the first friday, this still holds up strong in the series. ice cube's acting ability still isn't that great, but he is still a good character. I was disappointed to see that chris tucker's character was not in this or the sequel despite his being a main person in the first movie.
interestingly enough, the reason why he did not continue to do these movies is because he became a christian. his replacement is mike epps, who definitely is a good substitute. his scenes with baby d (played by rapper lady of rage) were hysterical.
the only other characters making a return to this are john witherspoon (craig's dad), tommy lister (deebo the bully), and a small cameo by stanley, the OCD next door neighbor. this movie has a slightly better plot than the first movie.
craig moves in with his uncle and cousin day day to escape from the clutches of deebo who was recently released from jail and is out for vengeance. while he is holed up with his uncle, he finds out that they owe taxes, so he decides to steal money from their violent spanish neighbors, the jokers.
chaos and hilarity ensues. still fun to watch, just not as good as the first movie.
